Getting certified at London City Airport

By completing this process, we can certify your aircraft and crew in compliance with our aerodrome licence, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and environmental responsibility.

Getting Started: The Key Requirements

To certify your aircraft, the following documentation and approvals are required:

Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM):

  • Must include procedures and limitations for approach path angles of 5.5° or greater.

Please provide the first 16 pages of your steep approach and short field take-off and landing supplement, endorsed by your regulating authority.

Steep Approach Training for Flight Crew:

  • Simulator training certification must be current, with recurrent training completed every 12 months. Training must be specific to London City Airport.

  • The Pilot-in-Command (PIC) must be steep approach certified; the Second-in-Command (SIC) must be type-rated. This represents the minimum crew qualification requirement.

  • Training providers will provide guidance on the minimum training requirements for your aircraft type. Training must be specific to aircraft type intended for operation.

Operators are responsible for maintaining a recurrent training programme specific to London City Airport.

Approval by Aircraft Registration Authority:

  • Either a letter endorsing steep approach procedures or a copy of your Operations Specification listing aircraft approved for steep approaches. The documentation must clearly state the current operator name.

  • Private operators who do not receive approval from their registry must provide their London City-specific procedures.

  • Private operators should also check with their registry to confirm whether special authorisation is required for NCC operations, as some authorities may need to be informed and provide this.

US/private operators without standard documents can complete a self-declaration form.

Additional Administrative Requirements:

  • Completion of a Credit or Non-Credit form.

  • Security Declaration and sample company crew ID for verification purposes.
